A home page or a front page is the primary page that shows up first when someone goes to your website. An example of a home page is arunachalwebsolus.com home page. Let’s see how we can set up a wordpress home page and what are the options we have.

If you haven’t installed wordpress yet, you may first want to read how to install wordpress.

You can set up your wordpress home page either as a static home page or as a blog. If you set it up as a static home page, you can still show your blog as secondary. See the guidelines below to set up your wordpress home page.

How to set up a static wordpress home page and a secondary blog

  1. First log in to your wordpress dashboard by going to yoursite.com/wp-admin.
  2. Now, first you need to create a new page “Home”. To do that, go to “Pages” > “Add New”. You will be taken to the page editor. Type “Home” in the title bar and then click publish from the right side bar. That’s it. You created a new page titled “Home” which is going to be the home page. Next we are going to tell wordpress that this page is the home page.
  3. In the dashboard, go to “Settings” > “Reading”.
  4. In “Readings Settings” page, you will see a “Front page displays” with some options. Check “A static page (select below)”. Click the drop down box for “Front page:” and select “Home”. Now wordpress will know that the new page you created above should be the home page. Remember to click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page. Otherwise your settings will be lost.
  5. You will also see “Posts page:” option with a drop down box below “Front page:”. If you also want a blog as secondary, you can have one by setting it up here. To do that, go to “Pages” from your dashboard and then click “Add New”. You will be taken to the page editor. Type “Blog” in the title bar and then click publish from the right side bar. You have create another new page “Blog” which is going to be the page which shows all your blog posts. Now from the left side bar of your wordpress dashboard, go back to “Settings” > “Reading”. In the “Readings Settings” page, under “Front page displays”, go to “Posts page:” and click the drop down box. Select “Blog”. Click “Save Changes” from the bottom of the page.
  6. From your wordpress dashboard, go to “Appearance” and click “Menus”. You will be taken to a page where you can set up all your menu buttons.
  7. In the left side, under “Pages”, click the “View All” tab.  You will see a list of all your pages created under it. Check the “Home” and “Blog” and click the “Add to menu” button. You can arrange the order by dragging the menu bars in the right side. Now there will be two menu bars in your website pages which your visitors can click to go to either “Home page” or the “Blog”.
  8. Congrats! You have created your static wordpress home page and have also created a page for showing all your blog posts.

How to set up a Blog as your wordpress home page
